Angelo Barovier

ANGELO BAROVIER  Italian, born 1927

The Barovier family’s involvement with glass can be traced back to the fifteenth century when in the 1450s, the family invented Crystalo which is the formula that all Murano glass is made from. The most prolific of all Murano’s maestros, creating hundreds of styles from 1935 to 1972 was Ercole Barovier.

Angelo, a son of Ercole, studied at the University of Padua and Ferrara. In 1947 he started working at Barovier & Toso and in 1951 he became a designer for the company. He took over the business from his father in 1975.

Works by the Barovier & Toso glass factory are on show in most important museums throughout the world.
